I did A 3 Day Juice Cleanse: Nekter Juice Bar Review + Win a $2. Gift Card. Recently I completed a 3 Day Juice Cleanse. I tried a new juice bar called Nekter Juice Bar. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Nekter, they are based out of Southern California (Orange County to be exact). They recently opened a new store in Manhattan Beach which is right in my neighborhood so I’ve been wanting to try this new juicery out. I’ve been there to get smoothies and juices before and was happy with their juices and their prices. For my 3 day juice cleanse I had a choice of doing the regular cleanse or a more advanced one.
Each cleanse supposedly has 1. I think is pretty awesome. Talk about a rush of nutrients to your system. I chose the 3 Day Organic Cleanse which Nekter describes as a “more intense cleanse” and for those who are looking for a deeper cleansing process. Well, considering this is my 6th or 7th juice cleanse – I figured why the heck not. I can do an advanced 3 day juice cleanse no problem. This ain’t my first rodeo! The rise of the British beauty seeking fame across the pond began way back in the day as the British shores just can’t compete with the bright lights of the big city. Now, one thing you should know about me is that when I set my mind to something – I really commit and do it. A juice cleanse is no different. There is no thought of cheating or giving up at any moment while I’m cleansing. There is just completing the 3 day juice cleanse and getting it done. And in all seriousness, what is 3 days in your life? It’s 3 days where your body gets to stop focusing on digesting food and give your digestive system a break so your body can focus on healing. I decided now was a good time to do a juice cleanse because I was feeling bloated and gross from Halloween and eating sweets and candy at various parties. It was starting to cause some unwanted sugar cravings which I decided needed to be nipped in the butt immediately before it spiraled out of control for the Holidays. Here is my 3 day recap. Juice Cleanse Day One: I woke up and already had a rumble in my tummy. Not good when you’re about to start a 3 day juice cleanse. I didn’t get a chance to pick up my juices the night before, so I jetted over to the Nekter Juice Bar Manhattan Beach and picked up 3 days worth of juice. Each day came in a green insulated cooler bag which was a nice touch. It was quite a challenge carrying three bags worth of juice and walking a puppy back to the car. To top it off, Kona had to go #2 while I was carrying all the juice back to the car. What timing! When I got to the car and got puppy buckled in, I grabbed juice #1 and sipped it on my way home. It was more like gulping because I was hungry. And starting a juice cleanse hungry is kind of scary. Thankfully by the time I was done with the first drink my hunger had gone away considerably. The juice had apple, grapefruit, celery, kale, parsley, spinach, and mustard greens in it. And boy, I could really taste the mustard greens! I began my work for the day and broke into Juice #2 around 1. Nekter calls this their Skinny lemonade because it has filtered water, lemon, turmeric, cayenne pepper, and agave in it. I like spicy. It had carrots, celery, kale, parsley, spinach, and ginger in it. It reminded me of a V8 juice but fresh and much better. I don’t know why it reminded me of V8 juice since I don’t think I’ve had one of those in 2. What can I say. They had Halloween Candy. I wanted to reach my hand in the bowl but I refrained. Instead I drank Juice #4. It was kind of like the spicy lemonade, but with beets. Mental toughness. I had some insane sugar cravings like I haven’t had in a while. I even told my friend I was craving a brownie. This was funny because I can’t even remember the last time I had a brownie. I am sure they have gluten free brownies but I’ve never had one. My friend Christine replied to my brownie comment and said “well, this is why you’re on the cleanse so you can get rid of the cravings.” Oh yeah. Back to cleansing. At around 5pm the sun was already starting to go down (thank you, daylight savings time). I popped open juice #5 which was a green juice made with celery, lemon, apple, kale, parsley, and dandelion greens. I also like when I am on a juice cleanse and the sun goes down because it means another day of cleansing almost done. It’s kind of spiritual for me. I had a going away party for a friend so I grabbed juice #6 and took it with me to keep in the car. The final juice of the day is a nut milk with cashews, water, dates, cinnamon, and nutmeg in it. I loved this drink because it was nice and thick. I drank half in the car and kept the other half in my insulated Nektar tote bag in the car. I went to the party and while everyone was having drinks around me I didn’t even feel a longing to grab a drink or have an appetizer. When I decide I’m doing a juice cleanse I really focus and zero in on doing the cleanse and getting it done. I am proud of my determination. After I left the party, I drank the rest of juice #6 on my drive home. So far so good. One day of cleansing in the bag. My stomach already feels less bloated which is always a good thing. Juice Cleanse Day 2: I woke up and had Juice #1. The mustard greens tasted better this time around. I was feeling good but craving some coffee. The Nekter juice cleanse says you can drink Green Tea while on the cleanse so I went for a walk with the puppy to a local coffee shop and grabbed an iced green tea (only tea, no sweeteners). I drank it on my walk home. At around 1. 0am I cracked open Juice #2. I really like this juice because of the spiciness and the turmeric in it. I could easily drink one of these every day and I know ginger is a good antiseptic and turmeric is great for reducing inflammation. Yum. As I was working I started to get hungry so I drank some water. At noon I cracked open my third juice. This made me happy because I realized at this point my 3 day juice cleanse was halfway over. I can do this! The afternoon went by fast mainly because I was so busy. I worked until around 7pm and then got ready for soccer. Yes, soccer. I’ve played soccer while on juice cleanses before and while I don’t play as hard as I normally would, it still feels really good to get outside and sweat. And sweat releases more toxins. All good things. I was prepared to buy an extra juice in case soccer made me super hungry but it didn’t. I had half of juice #6 before soccer and the other half after. The nut milk felt good like it was coating my stomach. Secretly I am planning what my first “breaking the juice fast” meal is going to be. Overall I am feeling good and love how noticeably less bloated I am. I also noticed my skin has some new blemishes popping up which I am not happy about but wonder if it’s a sign of my body detoxing. Juice Cleanse Day 3: The morning went by very quickly. By the time I knew it, lunchtime had arrived. I had lunch plans but told my friend in advance that I was on a juice cleanse and only going to have tea. I drank juice #3 right before we met for lunch and I ordered a pot of mint green tea. It was kind of weird only having a pot of tea at lunchtime, but like I said – once I am in a cleanse I get in the zone and there’s not stopping me. But it’s what I have to do to stick with it. My friend Fern was very cool about me only having tea at lunch and we had a great working lunch and conversation. Thanks, Fern! We had lunch aka tea at Urth Cafe and afterwards I found myself checking out a Raw food restaurant a couple doors down where my car was parked. In the past, I haven’t broken my juice fast properly and I wind up getting a huge tummy ache. This time around I really wanted to do it right. My doctor had advised me to try a raw vegan diet for a couple days post cleanse. I went to the restaurant and asked if they had food that would still be good if I ate it tomorrow. He gave me a couple recommendations, one being zucchini noodles. I told the guy at the restaurant that this would be one of my first meals after a 3 day juice cleanse and he said the noodles would be bland enough where they’d be easy on my tummy. I ordered zucchini noodles and a bottle of coconut water to go as my post juice fast meal. When I got home I immediately put the food in the fridge so I wouldn’t be tempted to eat it! The whole time I was at the raw food restaurant I kept thinking how I would gladly eat super clean raw vegan foods after a juice cleanse and how much easier it would be than doing a juice cleanse. Already my mental and physical body is resetting and craving super clean foods again. I love you, juice cleanse! Do I want to become a raw vegan? But it’s good to take a sabbatical from meat every now and again. My husband’s own version of a juice cleanse. On Thursday afternoon I was feeling really good and powering through my work to do list. I sat and took a break around 5: 3. Almost done! My husband came home around 7: 3. It stunk up the house but I didn’t even mind – I was casually sipping on my final nut milk of the cleanse. YUM. On Thursday evening my husband made me laugh. As he saw me drinking my last juice of the juice cleanse, he wanted to show his support by drinking his own version of a juice cleanse. Too funny! I have to admit, I was excited to go to bed so I could wake up and break my fast. I’m feeling great though and don’t want this feeling to go away when I reintroduce food back into my system. Post Juice Cleanse. Friday morning I woke up eager to break the fast. But I didn’t want to feel yucky from eating the wrong thing. I woke up early and took puppy for a walk BACK to Nekter which is a little over a mile away. Because I decided to break my fast with a smoothie. I broke the fast with a Pumpkin Pie smoothie from Nekter. It had pumpkin, cinnamon, dates, and nutmeg in it. It was not sweet at all which was just what I needed. I drank the smoothie and bought a bottled “Sweetie Pie” juice to have later in the day. I decided not to have coffee just yet so I continued drinking green tea. I had 2 cups of green tea in the morning. At around 1. 1: 3. I was hungry again so I had my zucchini noodles. I also ate them with a couple hemp flaxseed crackers. They are full of fiber and since.

Does Salt Really Cause Heart Disease? By Dr. Mercola. Salt has long been a treasured food staple. Far from being harmful, high- quality salt is actually essential for life, but in the United States and many other developed countries salt has been vilified as a primary cause of high blood pressure and heart disease. According to preliminary research presented at an American Heart Association meeting in New Orleans on March 2. This includes sodium intake from commercially available table salt and sodium found in processed foods and soy sauce. According to the researchers, 4. Sixty percent of the deaths were in men; 4. To reach these conclusions, the researchers analyzed 2. From these, they tried to determine how the various salt intakes affected cardiovascular disease risks. The ideal salt intake was determined to be less than 1,0. Kazakhstan had the highest average salt intake at 6,0. Free osteoporosis papers, essays, and research papers. These results are sorted by most relevant first (ranked search). You may also sort these by color rating or. High Cholesterol High cholesterol – what is it? When you have high cholesterol, it means you have excess cholesterol circulating in your bloodstream. Kenya and Malawi had the lowest average intake at about 2,0. Other salty regions included Central Asia, with an average of 5,5. Asia- Pacific area, averaging 5,0. East Asia at 4,8. According to the featured article: 2. In the U. S., the average intake was about 3,6. While the World Health Organization recommends sodium intake of fewer than 2,0. Salt is actually a nutritional goldmine, provided you consume the right kind, and maintain a proper salt- to- potassium ratio, which I'll discuss in a moment. Unfortunately, modern table salt has very little in common with natural, unrefined salt. Salt provides two elements – sodium and chloride – that are essential for life. Your body cannot make these elements on its own, so you must get them from your diet. Some of the many biological processes for which natural salt is crucial include: Being a major component of your blood plasma, lymphatic fluid, extracellular fluid, and even amniotic fluid. Carrying nutrients into and out of your cells, and helping maintain your acid- base balance. Increasing the glial cells in your brain, which are responsible for creative thinking and long- term planning. Both sodium and chloride are also necessary for the firing of neurons. Maintain and regulate blood pressure. Helping your brain communicate with your muscles, so that you can move on demand via sodium- potassium ion exchange. Supporting the function of your adrenal glands, which produce dozens of vital hormones. However, not all salts are created equal. Natural salt contains 8. Processed (table) salt, on the other hand, contains 9. These are dangerous chemicals like ferrocyanide and aluminosilicate. Purchase grass-fed export-quality New Zealand natural premium beef online direct from the farm and get NZ beef delivered to your door.A small amount of iodine may also be added. Some European countries, where water fluoridation is not practiced, also add fluoride to their salt. In France for example, 3. South America. Besides these basic differences in nutritional content, the processing—which involve drying the salt above 1,2. Fahrenheit—also radically alters the chemical structure of the salt. So, while you definitely need salt for optimal health, not just any salt will do. What your body needs is natural, unprocessed salt, without added chemicals. Does Salt Really Cause Heart Disease? Overindulgence in the typically used commercially processed table salt can lead to fluid retention, high blood pressure, swelling of your limbs, and shortness of breath. In the long term, it is thought to contribute to high blood pressure, kidney and heart disease, heart attacks, and heart failure. However, compelling evidence suggests that while processed salt can indeed cause fluid retention and related health problems, numerous studies have, overall, refuted the salt- heart disease connection. For example, a 2. NO strong evidence that cutting salt intake reduces the risk for heart attacks, strokes or death. In fact, salt restriction actually increased the risk of death in those with heart failure. Similarly, research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that same year revealed that the less sodium excreted in your urine (a marker of salt consumption), the greater the risk of dying from heart disease. This study followed 3,6. Europeans for eight years. The participants were divided into three groups: low salt, moderate salt, and high salt consumption. Researchers tracked mortality rates for the three groups, with the following results: Low- salt group: 5. Moderate salt group: 2. High- salt group: 1. The risk for heart disease was 5. Some studies have shown a modest benefit to salt restriction among some people with high blood pressure, but the evidence does not extend to the rest of the population. So what's really going on? Well, there are at least three factors that need to be taken into consideration. First, an ingredient that contributes to high blood pressure and heart disease across the board is fructose, and since so much of salt intake comes from processed foods, it's easy to see how the lines of causation may get blurred. Virtually all processed foods are high not just in sodium, but also fructose, particularly in processed foods sold in the US. Another factor is that there's a huge difference between natural salt and the processed salt added to processed foods and salt shakers in most homes and restaurants. The former is essential for good health, whereas the latter is best avoided altogether. A third factor that can have a significant impact on whether salt will harm or aid your health is the ratio between the salt and potassium in your diet. That said, it's clear that many are consuming far too much processed table salt and not enough natural salt. This begins early. According to the featured article, nearly 7. Some toddler fare contains as much as 6. American Heart Association for adults. Lead researcher Dariush Mozaffarian, MD, MPH told Med. Page. Today: 6. If voluntary agreements are not enough, taxation or restrictions on amounts of sodium should be implemented.'. Imbalance in this ratio can not only lead to hypertension (high blood pressure) but also contribute to a number of other diseases, including those highlighted in the featured research, along with a few others: Heart disease and stroke Memory decline Osteoporosis Ulcers and stomach cancer Kidney stones Cataracts Erectile dysfunction Rheumatoid arthritis The easiest way to achieve this imbalance is by consuming a diet of processed foods, which are notoriously low in potassium while high in sodium. It's possible that potassium deficiency may be more responsible for hypertension than excess sodium. Potassium deficiency leads to electrolyte imbalance, and can result in a condition called hypokalemia. Symptoms include: Water retention Raised blood pressure and hypertension Heart irregularities/arrhythmias Muscular weakness and muscle cramps Continual thirst and constipation According to a 1. The New England Journal of Medicine, titled . This equates to nearly 1. Compare that to the Standard American Diet where daily potassium consumption averages about 2,5. RDA is 4,7. 00 mg/day), along with 3,6. As mentioned earlier, if you eat a diet of processed foods, you can be virtually guaranteed that your potassium- sodium ratio is upside- down. This may also explain why high- sodium diets appear to affect some people but not others. According to a 2. The research, published in the Archives of Internal Medicine,8 was one of the first and largest US studies to evaluate the relationship of salt, potassium and heart disease deaths. According to Dr. Elena Kuklina, one of the lead authors of the study at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), potassium may neutralize the heart- damaging effects of salt. Tellingly, those who ate a lot of salt and very little potassium were more than twice as likely to die from a heart attack as those who ate about equal amounts of both nutrients. How Can You Ensure Proper Sodium- to- Potassium Ratio? So, how do you ensure you get these two important nutrients in more appropriate ratios? First, ditch all processed foods, which are very high in processed salt and low in potassium and other essential nutrients. Eat a diet of whole, unprocessed foods, ideally organically and locally- grown to ensure optimal nutrient content. This type of diet will naturally provide much larger amounts of potassium in relation to sodium. I do not recommend taking potassium supplements to correct a sodium- potassium imbalance. Instead, it is best to simply alter your diet and incorporate more potassium- rich whole foods. Green vegetable juicing is an excellent way to ensure you're getting enough nutrients for optimal health, including about 3. By removing the fiber you can consume even larger volumes of important naturally occurring potassium. Some additional rich sources in potassium are: Lima beans (9. Winter squash (8. Cooked spinach (8. Avocado (5. 00 mg per medium) Other potassium- rich fruits and vegetables include: Fruits: papayas, prunes, cantaloupe, and bananas. It is an old wives tale that you are getting loads of potassium from bananas, the potassium is twice as high in green vegetables) Vegetables: broccoli, Brussels sprouts, avocados, asparagus, and pumpkin Putting Salt Consumption into Proper Context. More than 8. 0 percent of the salt most people consume is from processed foods. Indeed, there is far too much sodium in processed foods. But you shouldn't be eating those foods anyway—sodium is just one of MANY ingredients in packaged foods that will adversely affect your health. The salt added to these convenience foods is bleached out, trace mineral deficient and mostly sodium—as opposed to natural salt, which is much lower in sodium and contains a myriad of other critical trace minerals. Himalayan salt, for example, contains about 8. Natural salt has flavor, over and above just salty taste. The more you can move toward a diet of whole organic foods in their natural state, the healthier you'll be—whether it's veggies, meat, dairy products, or salt. And increasing your vegetable intake will help insure you're getting the ideal ratio of sodium- to- potassium, which may be more crucial for overall health than we currently imagine. Ketosis Increases Neuronal Stabilization and Mental Focus . Ketosis somehow stabilizes the brain in a way that a normal glycolytic metabolism does not. This misconception arises from the fact that one must undergo a period of induction into ketosis (approximately 1. It is during this induction period that people experience the physical and mental sluggishness that is often associated with ketosis; unfortunately, these people often employ . Under a normal glycolytic metabolism, fat exists only as a backup or reserve fuel. Your body does not like to use it. When your body requires energy under a glycolytic metabolism, it first scans your blood- stream for glucose. If not much blood- glucose is found, then your body will command the liver to convert its stored glycogen into glucose. If not much glycogen is found, then your body will breakdown muscle and fat. Fat is the very last option. Under ketosis, fat is the very first option for energy ahead of anything else. The level of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides and blood glucose level decreased significantly (P < 0. HDL cholesterol increased significantly (P < 0. Long Term Effects of Ketogenic Diet in Obese Subjects with High Cholesterol Level A Low- Carbohydrate, Ketogenic Diet versus a Low- Fat Diet to Treat Obesity and Hyperlipidemia 1. C. Ketosis Eliminates Various Ailments such as Type 2 Diabetes and Hypertension . This makes sense since insulin levels are scrupulously controlled under ketosis, and large portions of fat and LDL cholesterol are lost. No significant changes in these parameters occurred in the high- protein group, instead systolic and diastolic blood pressures decreased (. Because the LCKD can be very effective at lowering blood glucose, patients on diabetes medication who use this diet should be under close medical supervision or capable of adjusting their medication. D. Ketosis Treats Several Diseases such as Alzheimer's and Various Cancers . Ketosis has been shown to raise the levels of beta amyloid, and is seen as a possible treatment for Alzheimer's disease. Cancers are simply malignant tumors which possess a glycolytic rate that is up to 2. Without glucose, these cancer cells should not survive, and this does seem to be the case. The ketogenic diet; fatty acids, fatty acid- activated receptors, and neurological disorders. Study of the ketogenic agent AC- 1. Alzheimer's disease: a randomized, double- blind, placebo- controlled, multicenter trial. Implementing A Ketogenic Diet Based on Medium- chain Triglyceride Oil in Pediatric Patients with Cancer. Carbohydrate restriction in patients with advanced cancer: a protocol to assess safety and feasibility with an accompanying hypothesis. E. Ketosis Promotes Cardiovascular Health . When analyzing the nutritional habits of American society, carbohydrate consumption has risen, resulting in an increase in obesity and atherogenic markers such as triglycerides and VLD. For Dasthi et al., the use of a KD with obese patients over a period of 1. Specifically, there is a significant decrease in fasting and postprandial (in response to high- fat meals) blood triglyceride levels. Furthermore, the phenomenon of carbohydrate- induced hypertriglyceridemia is long established. The serum triglyceride levels decreased more and high- density lipoprotein cholesterol level increased more with the low- carbohydrate diet than with the low- fat diet: at 6 months and at 1. Bearing in mind that the atherogenic lipoprotein phenotype is characterized by an increase in liver production of VLDL, low levels of HDL and a predominance of small LDL particles, it is surprising that low- fat and high- carbohydrate diets favor this atherogenic profile in patients who previously did not have this problem. These diets prompt an increase in larger LDL particles, a drop in smaller LDL particles and a decrease in the cholesterol/HDL ratio, which lowers glucose levels and favors weight loss. KDs based around proteins also have cardiovascular benefits, such as decreasing total cholesterol, LDL and triglyceride levels and increasing HDL levels. When comparing low- carbohydrate/high- protein diets and low- carbohydrate/high- fat diets, it seems that the difference between both diets in relation to blood lipid levels lies in the LDL, which are significantly lower in high- protein diets. Low- carbohydrate diets clearly have short- term cardiovascular benefits, but such benefits can also be observed over longer periods of time: 6 months, since improvements in blood pressure and blood levels of total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides are noted in the 6 month period; 1. HDL and lower triglyceride levels). Ketosis Preserves Lean- Body Mass . The result of this competition or duel catabolism is about as much muscle- mass lost as fat. This can of course be largely avoided thru ketosis since under ketosis body- fat is the first and primary source of energy. Ketosis is muscle- sparing for the simple reason that proteins no longer compete with fatty acids for energy utilization. Under ketosis, protein is a secondary energy source and thus muscle- mass is largely spared. After 9 weeks, weight loss was 1. One Will Lose Body- fat More Quickly on Keto Than Not . Under glycolytic conditions the predominate form in which the brain accepts energy is glucose or glucose derivatives. In other words at least 2. Under fat- adapted ketogenic conditions at least 8. Each day this person if under a ketogenic metabolism would lose an additional 5. H. Ketosis Blunts Appetite and Increases Meal Satiety . Understanding Ketosis; An Overview of Metabolism. Metabolism can be defined as those particular processes by which a creature derives energy. There are several different possible metabolic processes that humans are capable of, but perhaps the most prevalent and important of them all, and the one that plays a central role in understanding ketosis is the krebs cycle. The krebs cycle is the primary mechanism by which the human body extracts energy yielding molecules from food. Oxaloacetate is naturally regenerated from the cycle, but Acetyl- Co. A must be fed into the cycle continuously. Both of these molecules can be produced from the molecule pyruvate as shown in the diagram. Pyruvate itself is produced thru glycolysis. Glycolysis begins with a glucose molecule that is phosphorylated and reduced down to 2 molecules of pyruvate. This is what happens to all carbohydrates; they are all converted into a form that can be fed into this pathway for the eventual production of acetyl- Co. A. Well it turns out that there is a store of carbohydrates in your liver in the form of glycogen that will get broken down into glucose when none is ingested. If you do not ingest glucose for such a long period of time that liver- glycogen stores become depleted then you will take all of your energy from fatty acids. Chris Powell . Best Workouts for Fat Loss and Burning Calories. Someone once famously defined “insanity” as doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results. The aphorism also holds true for the time you log at the gym and your weight loss goals.“If you do the same workout all the time, you won't make progress,” says Dan Roberts, celebrity trainer and creator of Methodology X. They’re insanely tough—but not insane (or “Insanity”). Based off the same principles as HIIT, Tabata uses high- intensity movements, but follows a specific timeline, whereas HIIT workouts can vary greatly as far as length and the amount of time you spend performing your high- intensity movements. Tabata uses cardio- and strength- based exercises like high knees, pushups, mountain climbers and burpees to get your heart rate up. Typically at the end of the first round (after all 8 repetitions), a longer period of rest is given, and then another round is started for a total of 2.
Fat loss is simple, but improving body composition – losing fat AND adding muscle – is a lot trickier. It requires the use of smart nutrition and the best. This eight-minute workout will help you tone up those upper body wobbly bits with exercises for back, shoulders, chest and arm muscles. White explains. I wouldn’t recommend it as the only type of workout you do, or the workout you do every day, but throwing it in at least once a week is a great way to torch calories and confuse the body from whatever routine it’s used to,” he adds. What You’ll Get: A total- body workout for less time than it takes to watch one episode of your favorite sitcom — that won’t short you on the calorie burn. Those who work out with tabata burn an average of 1. Short for “high- intensity interval training”, HIIT involves short bursts of high- intensity exercise like sprints or squat jumps followed by a longer, low- intensity phase that White refers to as “active recovery.” And, because the high- intensity phase is measured by effort instead of weight or duration, it’s one exercise worth keeping in your schedule. As your fitness level improves, so will what you define as 8. It’s a workout that evolves with you. Since HIIT requires a lot of energy and, therefore, longer periods of rest, White suggests incorporating a HIIT cardio session into your workout routine one to two times per week. What You’ll Get: “The main point of HIIT is the excess post- oxygen consumption . In other words, 2. White. Even better: HIIT burns a lot of calories in a short amount of time, making it perfect for those days when you’re pressed for time. Forget the treadmill and elliptical; the stair stepper can help you break out of your workout plateau and send your body into fat burning mode almost instantly. Rarely do you see people climbing stairs as their typical workout, which is why it will torch even more calories. Proper form is a necessity to avoid injury, though. Maintain good posture and forgo holding on to the handlebars to really ramp up the intensity,” says White. What You’ll Get: Muscle confusion and therefore a higher calorie burn. Treadmills and ellipticals tend to be the most popular pieces of equipment in the gym because we are used to them and the movements they require. It’s easy for your body to get used to the treadmill and elliptical; since the stair stepper forces your muscles to work in a different way, your body has to work harder and, as a result, burn more calories. According to White, a 1. Soul. Cycle, Crank and Flywheel aren’t just trendy places to workout, the high- intensity cardio sessions will burn fat and have you dripping in sweat. While prices may be a bit steep, it pays to get in on a class because it’s much more difficult to get the same results by hopping on the stationary bike solo. You may be seated, but your body is in full motion with this workout. Rowing works both the upper body and lower body, and is an incredible cardiovascular workout,” says White. If you’re a little uncomfortable approaching the rowing machine, most gyms and studios are now incorporating this machine into workout classes. Get in on one to get familiar with this machine with the help of a pro. Chances are it’s the least- used at your gym, but it will require your body to use more energy and different muscles than the treadmill or elliptical. What You’ll Get: A full- body workout that will get your heart rate up and your body moving in a new and interesting way. The set- up is very minimal, comprised of two straps that hang from an elevated place with loops for hands or feet. It uses your own bodyweight as resistance instead of traditional weights or machines. Don’t be scared off by the unique setup; people of all fitness levels can use it. While it’s possible to purchase a kit for your home, it’s best to try TRX with a trainer or in a class setting to reap the most benefits when you’re starting out. What You’ll Get: “Research supports that adding resistance training into your regular exercise program will aid in weight loss because it supports muscle growth, and muscle burns more calories than fat and as a result will help reduce overall body fat,” says White. A one- hour TRX class can burn anywhere between 3. Break out your racket! Whipping that ball around will actually whip you into pretty good shape. When it comes to staying on track with your workouts, White says it’s all about variety, and a game of tennis with a friend can help you break out of workout monotony. What You’ll Get: “A 1. White. What’s more, tennis involves a lot of short, intense sprints on the court, which not only kick up the fat burn, but also improve your agility and coordination. The workouts that are going to burn the most fat are the ones that do two simple things: make you work your entire body and combine both cardio and strength training. It requires strength, power and endurance. When you throw a hook, it takes serious power and strength. To sustain a punching combination — for example, jab, hook, uppercut — requires stamina for a period of time, resulting in a great cardio endurance workout. What it comes down to is, in order to maintain all of that activity, you have to be burning a lot of calories,” says White. Don’t be intimidated by boxing — classes can accommodate all levels. You don’t have to be Rocky to get a rock- hard body with this workout; your best one- two combination at any level of fitness will fire up your fat burn. What You’ll Get: “The mixture of high- intensity impacts and quick speed fires up the metabolism and increases the heart rate dramatically,” says White. If you can boost your metabolism like this, your body will burn calories more efficiently and result in more rapid weight loss if you’re consistent with the workouts. In that time I have lost 7 pounds due to the changes I have made in my diet using Fooducate ,, the App really opened my eyes to what food is more healthy (less calories, fiber, less processed sugar, drinking more water, etc,,,). So it did not just show me some foods were not as healthy as I had thought they were, but provides multiple alternatives. I was not paid to provide a review, these are my own thoughts and ideas. This is perfect and I have found it to be very well- designed and intuitive. My only qualm is that some product's grade ratings are off (I've only noticed this with two out of probably 4. I've scanned so far) so just be wary of that and, when in doubt, go by the nutrition facts/ingredients instead. Note: I do not have the premium version. Note 2: Notifications can be turned off, both under . A great alternative to weight watchers with an even better explanation of each food's nutrition, and still a points system to count the value of your food instead of just the calories. This was great, EXCEPT it doesn't have food points for every item. In fact because it's based on user input, most unpackaged items that I put on my list didn't have an adequate amount of nutrition facts therefore the app couldn't calculate the point value. It's kind of useless to my diet if I can't count the points of every thing that I eat. I was using fitness pal but I don't want to count calories because it's not as productive as point values. Anyway, I'm deleting the app, but if they update the system and assign point values to everything, then I would totally use it religiously. Day Diet Sample Menu.
